My Invisalign Tray is Clicking!

So, guess what? My latest Invisalign tray is clicking! Yeah, you read that right.

My teeth - Invisalign journey

Hi, my name is Sarah and I completed my Invisalign journey in 75 weeks!

This blog documents my own personal experience with wearing Invisalign aligners - all the ups and the downs.

This blog does not constitute medical advice, so speak to a dental professional about any specific concerns.

Every time I pop in tray #17, it’s like my teeth are trying to start a conversation with me. 😅

It’s kinda like they’re not fitting as snugly as the others did. There’s a little bit of give and it kinda clicks as I position my tongue and jaw.

Weird, right?

I thought maybe I was imagining things, but nope, it’s definitely a thing.

It clicks when I talk, and sometimes when I eat, it feels like it’s about to host its own little concert in my mouth.

At first, I was freaking out, thinking my teeth decided to throw a rebellion against my decision to wear Invisalign for the best part of a year.

So, I did what any of us would do—I went on a Google deep dive. And guess what? Turns out, it’s not just me. This clicking situation is pretty common with new trays.

Why is my Invisalign tray clicking?

More like this: I was rejected for Invisalign by 3 different providers!

Apparently, when your trays are new, they might not fit like a glove right off the bat.

Poor-fitting trays cause the clicking. But, you can do a few things to help a new set of trays fit snugly around your teeth!

I found out it’s super important to make sure those trays are fully seated. Like, really make sure they’re on there good.

After a couple of days, they should stop clicking and be fitting well.

Using those little chewy things (you know, the ones that look like they belong to a dog toy collection?) can help get the trays all snug and cozy.

When I get a clicky tray (like this one) then I always use a chewy when putting them back in after a meal.

So, yeah, that’s the latest saga in my Invisalign adventure. Who would’ve thought teeth could be so high maintenance, right? 😂

Did the clicking stop?

Yes, the clicking stopped after 3-4 days of wearing the trays 20 hours per day and using the chewies every time I put them back in, concentrating on the clicking area the most.

The deal with these chewies is they’re like personal trainers for your trays, making sure they’re hugging your teeth just right.

You bite down on them, move them around your mouth, and they help eliminate any air gaps between your teeth and the aligners.

It’s like they’re telling your trays, “C’mon, you can fit better than that!”

And you know what? They actually work.

After a few minutes of going to town on a chewy, my trays feel like they’re exactly where they need to be, no more clicking or weird gaps.

It’s kind of satisfying, in a “look at me, being all responsible about my dental health and making Invisalign work faster” kind of way!
